Imagined Worlds Project

Week 2 Progress

Week 2, personally, was by far the easiest week to work through because I and my team had a steady and plentiful amount of work being done and that needed to be done. I found that with week 2 everyone started to cooperate and work well together as a team so we managed to work together as professionals and allowed us to create an effective and efficient workflow. As for the stress that I had encountered in week 1, I found that this week wasn’t as stressful due to me and everyone getting used to working together and knowing exactly what we wanted from each other work wise.

I have included evidence photos of my concept art that I have produced through week 2 of our class project. At the beginning of the second week I was requested to work on further developing building concepts so that some of our modelers could work on other assets, rather than having everyone focus on environment assets at once. To continue further developing building concepts I first went back to my thumbnail sketches that I had created and asked people which one they liked most, which happened to be the “Treepees” that I designed mainly due to the uniqueness of them and the potential challenge that they could be to model. I created the concepts traditionally with my sketch book and mechanical pencil and I was really impressed with the final result. The treepee concepts had two designs for variety, both tent and tree wise.

Below I have also included some step-by-step concept art for a portal design that would be used on one of the planets our protagonist could explore. I came up with the design for the portal during a meeting with 3D modelling supervisor Richard Bloxham and project supervisor Rob as we discussed what each department was doing and needed doing – the original rough idea sketch is included below. After we had finished for the day I then went home and worked on the concept digitally with my Huion graphics tablet, and when I returned the next day I handed over the concepts to be worked on. Before I had finished the concepts I got in touch with my classmates asked their opinions on the work I produced so far – they suggested that I should make the portals slightly rounder which I was more than happy to do. The overall end result of these concepts was really pleasing to look at and I was satisfied with my work.

Before the end of week 2, I was quickly asked to work on a concept for a portal that would be used within the protagonist’s space station. Due to the request being on such short notice I didn’t get chance to refine the sketch. Overall I was happy enough to send the concept over to be modelled later on, however if I had more time I would’ve liked to design more ideas for the portal as well as refine and colour them.

Further Building Development

Portal Design(s) For Planet

Concepts
Here above have created world-based portals that our protagonist to get back to the central hub (space Station) or jump from
to This portal is based around our first planet, the forest world. Knowing that the world be heavily focused I
began to draw a quic sketch of an idea that came to mind during a meeting between me, my class and our tutor Rob when we were discussing portals.
The concept Was based around each world having a different portal due to each world having a unique environment, so I thought have trees warp
an arch in order to create the area Of Which the portal could be opened and used.
have included Some concepts for the portal gateway — these may Change depending on the reception Of opinions on the samples.

Scrum Meeting Documentation

During the 2nd week of this project, I the class would be focusing on production of 3D assets from concept art as well as the further production of concept art from me, Olivia and Emma. This week I would mainly be working on building concepts as well as portal concepts.

Problems I Encountered

This week I had encountered no problems with the work that I had been set. However I do believe as the week progresses the stress would slowly pick up especially with the pressure to have these concepts finished by next week due to the up and coming deadline of the Imagined Worlds sprint.
